Join us on Good Friday (April 18th) from 6:00-8:00 PM for this special event. After all, meeting dogs is better with drinks, and drinks are better with dogs!

Join us for a casual evening to meet our pawsitively charming adoptable pups! This St. Patrick's Day celebration is sure to be the most fetching event of the season. Our four-legged friends are ready to show off their Irish spirit while you enjoy the company of potential new companions.

Fight Fascism Friday
Brandon Absher is back for his second installation of the monthly Fight Fascism Friday at Eugene V. Debs Hall this February 28, 6 pm.
As part of this installation, Brandon has invited a speaker from the New York Immigration Coalition to address the topic of "The Struggle for Immigrant Rights in WNY." The talk will begin at 7 pm promptly with discussion to follow.
This is a recurring event, so keep the lookout for future Fight Fascism Fridays.

Chef Steve's Lasagna Night
Have Chef Steve make you his award-winning lasagna this Monday, February 24.
Doors open at 5 pm, and by 6 pm we'll have Chef Steve's lasagna, homemade Polish rye bread, a mountain of salad, and homemade dessert with coffee for only $20 per person.

Sweet as Candy Happy Hour
Join us for a heartwarming "Sweet as Candy" Happy Hour this Valentine's season! On Monday, February 17th from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, we're once again partnering with the City of Buffalo Animal Shelter to play matchmaker between loving dogs and potential forever homes.
There's no better way to celebrate Love Day than by sharing your heart with a shelter pet who has so much love to give. Come meet some adorable adoptable dogs who are ready to shower you with unlimited kisses and cuddles. Whether you're looking to add a four-legged friend to your family or just want to spread some Valentine's Day cheer, this special happy hour is sure to fill your evening with tail wags and puppy love.

Film Night: Soviet Bus Stops (2024)
Our monthly Film Nights are making a return! Please join us on Tuesday, December 10, as we screen Soviet Bus Stops (2024), a fascinating documentary described thusly:
"Canadian photographer Christopher Herwig travels former Soviet Republics from Ukraine to Uzbekistan, Armenia to Far Eastern Siberia, and all points in between, in a decades-long bus stop treasure hunt across more than 50,000 kilometres. Uncovering the stories of the designers who built fascinating architectural marvels during the Soviet regime, Soviet Bus Stops is an ode to the power of individual creativity that would not be suppressed."
We open up on December 10 at 6 pm, with the film showing at 7 pm. A suggested $10 donation will help cover the screening fee. We invite you to order Alibaba takeout, which you're welcome to bring to Debs!

Vets & Pets
Join us on Veterans Day for Vets & Pets, a special event celebrating our veterans and supporting local pets in need! Hosted by the City of Buffalo Animal Shelter and Eugene V. Debs Hall, this event runs from 6-8pm, with all bar tips benefiting the WNY Veterans Housing Coalition. Come meet some of the shelter’s adoptable dogs and learn more about how you can help both our veteran community and the pets who need loving homes. Don’t miss this heartwarming evening of good drinks, great company, and meaningful support!

Paws & Polls
Together with the City of Buffalo Animal Shelter, we will be hosting ‘Paws & Polls’ this Election Day at Eugene V. Debs Hall! We know elections can be stressful so come on down for some puppy therapy with adoptable dogs from the City Animal Shelter. Doors open at 6pm with the dogs here until 8pm! We’ll begin watching election returns at 8pm until late.

Native Tree Planting
Thanks to our generous members, Eugene V. Debs Hall has placed an order for 20 native trees to be planted in the future Frank X. Schwab Square. Bring a shovel and spade, and help us plant them! The planting will be followed up with complementary local craft beer and Alibaba kebobs.

Chef Steve's Oktoberfest
Chef Steve is back with an authentic German meal for Friday. Chef Steve will prepare bratwurst, German potato salad, sauerkraut, and homemade apple dessert and coffee for only $20. We'll also break open a keg of Buffalo Brewing Company's special Oktoberfest beer!

Ethan Cox hosts Brewers' Union No. 4, his monthly bartending night every first Monday of the month at Eugene V. Debs Hall. This October 7, Ethan will unveil Brewery Ardennes' Belgian Double and his acclaimed white bean and kale soup. Bring interesting beer for others to sample.

Tree Fundraiser!
Mark your calendars for a special Tree Fundraiser organized by Chef Steve on Friday, August 23, 6 to 8 pm, which for only $40 will include a Chef Steve feast and an open bar!
Thanks to your help, in the past two years we've planted a staggering 48 street trees in Broadway Fillmore, completing the street tree canopy along five blocks of Peckham Street and a block of Memorial Drive.
We're now turning our attention to the future Frank X. Schwab Square, named for the Buffalo mayor in the 1920s who stood up to the KKK and the Prohibition agents, across the street from Eugene V. Debs Hall, with a goal of planting *at least* 15 native shade trees in late October.
We've made huge progress in re-treeing Broadway Fillmore. Let's keep it going!

Homeowner Historic Tax Credit Workshop
Eugene V. Debs Hall is proud to host Preservation Buffalo Niagara, Preservation Studios, and Councilmember Mitch Nowakowski's May 29 workshop on the NYS homeowner historic tax credit, available to all homeowner occupants in the Broadway Fillmore Historic District.

Film Night: Clear Day Thunder: Rescuing the American Chestnut
Fresh off of a volunteer planting of 29 street trees, Eugene V. Debs Hall will host a screening of Clear Day Thunder: Rescuing the American Chestnut (2023). This documentary film, commissioned by the American Chestnut Foundation, tells the story of citizen scientists and researchers working to restore this ecologically and economically important species.
Doors at Eugene V. Debs Hall, 483 Peckham Street, will open on Tuesday, May 28, at 6 pm, with the film being screened at 7 pm.

Jane's Talk: How Buffalo Gave Wings to the World
Please join us at Eugene V. Debs Hall for Jane’s Talk: How Buffalo Gave Wings to the World, on Tuesday, May 21, 6 pm, in which we will explore two seemingly unrelated topics: the true origins of the Buffalo wing and the birth of Buffalo's—and America's—aviation industry.
We're proud to host three speakers for this event: Marc Moscato of Buffalo Bike Tours, Lina-Brown Young of John Young's Original Mumbo Sauce, and Chuck Banas, local urbanist and aviation history expert.
We'll learn about the contested claims about the invention of the Buffalo wing, and learn more about the people and places that represent Buffalo's largest ever industry: aircraft manufacturing. Plus, we'll be able to sample Lina's acclaimed mumbo wings, which will be out at 6 pm sharp.
Doors open at 6 pm, with presentations beginning at 7 pm. Jane's Talk, modeled after the international Jane's Walk in honor of urbanist Jane Jacobs, is our ongoing speaker series on topics related to cities and the human habitat.

Chef Steve is back with pulled pork on Monday, May 20, 5 to 10 pm. Chef Steve will prepare pulled pork sandwiches on Costanzo rolls, homemade coleslaw and cornbread, and whole orange cakes for dessert for only $15!

Broadway Fillmore Tour de Progress
Chris Hawley, in collaboration with the Central Terminal Neighborhood Association and Buffalo Bike Tours, invites you to join this bicycle tour of Broadway Fillmore, a neighborhood rich in history and seeing the beginnings of a vibrant transformation. Historically a stronghold of the Polish and African American communities, Broadway Fillmore's cultural tapestry is growing, shaped by a wave of immigrants, refugees, and newcomers from across the globe.
As we pedal through its streets, Hawley will offer an insider's perspective on how the neighborhood is changing and growing. From bustling new businesses to cherished landmarks, we'll explore the rich fabric of Broadway Fillmore, stopping at key points along the way to delve into new community initiatives and little-known projects shaping its future.
Admission is free but a $20 donation is accepted for those who can afford it (nobody will be turned away for lack of funds). Bike rentals are available for an additional $20.
Meeting at Eugene V. Debs Hall, 483 Peckham Street, we'll delve into the heart of Broadway Fillmore, venturing inside several locations including Torn Space Theater, Buffalo Brewing Company, the Eckhardt Building, and the Fillmore Farms container garden.
